Welcome > Agent Info > About Michelle Perkins & Associates ...
Just as I would like to get to know you, I feel that likewise, you should know a little about me.
I grew up on a ranch in Gering, Nebraska that was homesteaded by my Great Grandparents (The Ewings).
After graduating from Gering High School in 1982, I attended Nebraska Western College where I earned my Associate of Applied Science.
In 1985 I decided I had to get out of my small town and see a little bit of the world by joining the U.S. Army. I attended Basic Training and AIT at Fort Jackson, SC. Upon completion and obtaining the MOS of 71L, they shipped me off to Ansbach, Germany where I worked for 1st Armored Division. In 1986 my duty station changed to Fort Myer, Virginia where I worked for the Military District of Washington Reenlistment office until I was Honorably discharged in 1987. I then worked for various firms around the DC area as an administrative assistant.
Now you may ask how I got into Real Estate. It was in 1997 when I got tired of seeing the Real Estate Course sign at the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors as I drove to and from work at Dewberry & Davis. I decided to take the class and soon realized that it was both an opportunity and a challenge to run a business in real estate. I knew, based on what I put into the business, and whether it would be success or failure, would be completely be dependent upon me and how I ran it. I also liked the idea of being my own boss. I started my career with Weichert Realtors and about 1.5 years later, switched over to Remax Regency to in order to fully run my business (as a business) and to be able to give my clients the service they deserved. I also have continued my education to earn my ABR, GRI and most recently my CDPE (Certified Distressed Property Expert) Designations & attend Remax International Conventions every year to meet other Remax Professionals from around the world.
I started the "Team Concept" about four years ago. The "Team" allows me to give more service to my clients along with enjoying more time my family. I love Remax, and my career, and doubt I will ever do anything else.
As far as what I enjoy besides selling real estate? That is tough as I'm a workaholic and have a passion for my job and my clients! It was during my tour in Germany that I met my husband Tim. We have been married 23 years and we have three children... Nikkole, who is 19, Josh, who is 15, and my youngest son Cory, who is 10. When I'm not doing activities with the kids, I love to shop, travel, visit local wineries and attend concerts. I love music, and with being in the car so much of the time... it is a necessity! I like to be on the go most of the time and rarely work around the house. If I can avoid cooking or cleaning, I do! Fortunately, Real Estate, with the weekend and evening hours, helps me avoid being too much of a domestic engineer which is really hard work!.
I believe in giving back to the community and am involved with various Charities, our Church and the Chambers of Fauquier & Culpeper Counties.
Well, that is my bio in a nutshell. I eventually would like to move back to our ranch in Nebraska and maybe open up a "Top Notch" Remax office and also run a small cattle ranch. Just an idea, but as I have found out in life... everything changes. I'll just have to see what tomorrow brings.

Financing Your Home >Assuming a Mortgage
You may be able to assume the seller's mortgage liability when buying a house instead of having to apply for a new loan.
Assuming a loan could minimize your down payment or closing costs and get you a more advantageous interest rate. To know whether an assumption will work, find out the loan balance. If the balance is a small fraction of the purchase price, you will have to come up with a large down payment or get a second loan for the difference, unless the seller is willing to provide some of the financing. If the loan balance is high, the loan may have been made when interest rates were higher than they are today.
Most newer loans that are assumable have adjustable rates. If you are considering an assumption because of credit problems, you will need the lender's approval to make the transaction work.
